Poetry by Vesna Acevska
The “Miladinov Brothers Award” is given for best book of poetry published between two editions of the International Struga Poetry Evenings Festival. The Miladinov brothers, Dimitar and Konstantin are renowned humanists and writers and educationists from the 19 century, born in the city of Struga. The older one, Dimitar Miladinov, was a teacher and collector of popular songs and stories, and the younger one, Konstantin, is more famous as a poet. During his studies in Moscow he wrote the most famous romantic poem in the Macedonian language, “Longing for the South”. This poem has become a symbol of the Festival, which traditionally opens with its verses read in several languages. The Miladinov brother ended their lives tragically in the Ottoman prisons, sentenced unjustly for their cultural and educational mission among their people.
The “Miladinov Brothers Award” was established in 1963, and the best book is selected after a publicly announced competition by the SPE Award Committee. The award is the most significant poetry prize in the Republic of Macedonia, recognized as a national poetry award.
In 2009, Vesna Acevska was the winner of the national poetry award the “Miladinov Brothers”. At the Diversity site, within the collection entitled “Macedonian Projects,” we are publishing a selection from her poetry.

NEW ANTHOLOGY AT DIVERSITY
... When poetry moves from the poet to the one who receives it, magic coupling occurs between humans, as between brothers and sisters, regardless of race, sex, religion or culture. In this way we have in common piece of land for cultivation. Then we do not take weapon, but plow and then we throw seed, to have something for reap together, when time comes.
Knut Edegard
(Preface to the collection of poetry Voices from North: Voices from North, Norway Contemporary poetry, Struga Poetry Evenings, 2009)

With this quotation from Knut Edegard, Diversity announces the selection of Norwegian poetry that is presented bilingually: in Norwegian language (the original) and in Macedonian language (in translation). This selection is prepared by the Norwegian poets Bente Christensen and Knut Ødegård. Jasminka Markovska made the translation into macedonian language. Vesna Acevska, the Macedonian translator of EDA verses, made the linguistic redaction of the Macedonian translation.
Also, in this context, we have that honor to announce that on 11th of March in Oslo, in the House of literature, there will be presented the work of the project Diversity. The event is organized by the Norwegian Association of Translators. For any further information regarding this event you can visit the following link:
