News every half hour

When every news flash tells us many die
unjustly, or that millions can't be fed,
who's letting blood today, who's being bled
is hard to tell. Here's this atrocity –
who did it, who knew what, and what they said
is all we have to judge the matter by.
Who paid which piper, in what currency,
how in whose history-books it will be read
in the age-long war of words, and just how cred¬-
ible any of that is – what they're trying to hide,
what means what end is supposed to justify –
the treadmill turns beneath the staggering tread.
That's life. The world goes horrified to bed
and in the morning rises horrified.
